The City Council Finance Committee cut $1 million from Mayor Deegan’s proposed budget for additional resources to fight litter and blight in Jacksonville.
This is a bipartisan problem that voters across the city say they’re concerned about, and reducing litter and blight in a meaningful way requires additional resources.
We ask that the full City Council restore funding for litter and blight mitigation, as it’s a public safety issue, an economic development issue, an environmental issue, and a quality of life issue for us all.
Let City Council know that you fully support the proposed funding for a much-needed litter campaign.

Ask City Council to restore funding to address the serious problem of litter and blight in Jacksonville. Trash not only impacts our river - it's also an economic, public safety, human health, and quality of life issue for us all.
Litter causes significant harm to the environment, and pollutes our St. Johns River. It entangles, suffocates or poisons fish and wildlife. As some litter degrades, it can release harmful chemicals and microplastics that contaminate the water or soil. Some trash can even spread pathogens and diseases.
Unfortunately, the City of Jacksonville has not been able to get ahead of this growing problem that is undermining our city’s economic viability and the quality of life in many of our neighborhoods. Let City Council know that you fully support Mayor Deegan's proposed funding for a much-needed anti-litter campaign.
